Weekly Action Theater classes with Sarah Bild

This 6-week series offers an introduction to Action Theater, a unique form of improvisational theatre developed by the American performance artist, Ruth Zaporah. Fundamental to the practice is an embodied presence in performance, where the experiencing of the body informs the content, moment by moment. Through playful and rigorous exercises, which isolate and recombine movement, sound and language, we broaden our range of improvisational skills. Always working from an embodied state, we develop spatial awareness and access to our imagination, crafting creative impulses into clear images, stories and dreamscapes. This technique turns the mind inside out, examines existing habits and opens up new possibilities. We bring attention to the details of our physical choices, to the quality and range of our vocalizing. Working in solos, duets, trios and also as an ensemble, the class starts with physical and vocal warm-ins followed by various exercises, finishing with informal presentations.

Sunday Night Improv Workshop

Our workshop is a lively, engaging experience that leads directly into our show. Every Sunday, you can join us to practice scenes and learn about story-based improv, guided by a variety of great teachers. Sunday 4-6, always free.

Sunday Night Improv

Our show is a natural extension of the workshop. A regular rotation of some of Montreal’s most talented improvisers always perform, including Sandi Armstrong, Alain Mercieca, Heidi Lynne Weeks, Maité Sinave, Mariana Vial, Adalia Pemberton, Solly Krygier-Paine, Kristina Guevarra, Mason Persaud, Shanthony Exum, Nicky Fournier and Jeremy Lewis . On top of having seasoned improvisers, we also have the new birds that walk in for the first time and steal the show. You could just literally show up and get thrown in the fire of a live show with no script! It has led to many amazing walk-in, home run hitters and creates an awesome “anything can happen” spirit, which is the backbone to improv.

Always entertaining, Sunday Night Improv promises a good time for audiences who are welcome to contribute to the show through their suggestions and voting.
